Samsung is running “The Chant”, a commercial featuring South Sudan 400 metre runner Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan, as part of the company’s sponsorship of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Margret is seen putting on a pair of newly released Samsung Gear IconX cord-free earbuds before walking out into a stadium. Instantly, she is connected to her fellow South Sudanese, who chant and cheer her name. Samsung Olympics Chant helps to celebrate South Sudan’s debut at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio, following on from the 36 minute Samsung documentary “A Fighting Chance” by Morgan Neville, which profiled competitors from smaller and poorer nations. The Samsung Olympics Chant YouTube video connects viewers to the Samsung Galaxy Olympics microsite and the hashtag #DoWhatYouCant.

“A Fighting Chance”, released in April 2016, tells the inspiring stories of Olympic Games marathon runner Tsepo Mathibelle from Lesotho, beach volleyball players Miller Pata and Linline Matauatu from Vanuatu and boxer Yenebier Guile Benitez Dominican Republic. Their journey celebrates anyone who has fought through physical and social barriers. These are people who don’t expect anything handed to them. All they want is “a fighting chance.”
